Eventus is offering an exciting opportunity for 2 experienced photographers to be part of a joint academic and arts research project which aims to transform the way society views older women.

The project, entitled ‘Look at me! Images of Women and Ageing’, is being led by a team of researchers from the Universities of Sheffield and Derby and by Eventus, a Sheffield-based cultural development agency.

The Eventus projects will be one of 4 elements (the others include phototherapy, art therapy and video techniques) exploring how women are represented in the media and society as they grow older, the messages these images give out, and how they affect women’s well-being.

Eventus is commissioning 2 photographers, each to work with 1 of the following:

Project 1 - Too old to take ourselves seriously
A group of women, aged 55-80+ (possibly some staff and family members also) from an Extra Care Housing Scheme in Norfolk Park, Sheffield, run by Places for People.

Project 2 - Green Women
A group of women volunteers, aged 40s-60s, from Green Estate, a social enterprise based on the Manor, Sheffield, which offers a range of commercial and community focused environmental programmes to improve the local green infrastructure.

Photographers should have:
• a creative response to the brief
• a track record of high quality digital photography
• experience of working to high standards in community settings
• a demonstrated interest in women’s issues and ageing (their own or other people’s)
• experience of engaging people in community settings
• innovative ideas about formats and contexts for displaying images in community settings
• experience of or interest in cross-disciplinary working within arts and academia

The fixed fee for the commission is £3,000 (including VAT if applicable) with an additional negotiable budget for exhibition costs.

You can apply for both commissions but we will not award both commissions to the same photographer.
