Eventus was commissioned by Sheffield City Council Parks and Countryside to manage, run and deliver an innovative community heritage project based on Weston Park. The project was formed as part of a £2million Heritage Lottery Funded project aimed at restoring Weston Park’s monuments, memorials and historic landscape to their former glory. Eventus’ role was to discover and document memories of the ways in which local people of all ages used Weston Park, and to convey the information gathered about the park in a distinctive, memorable and individual manner.
Stories and images were collected through a mix of interviews, exhibitions, events, a website, Sheffield Star articles and BBC Radio Sheffield broadcasts. Over 100 people have contributed memories ranging from the Whit Sings to 1970’s ‘Dolebuster’ concerts. Eventus produced a booklet of memories and sound-bites of oral histories for the park’s website, along with a celebration event that provided an opportunity for people to share their stories and see the finished products.
