Places for People

Eventus was commissioned by Places for People to produce a creative consultation event that would enable Places for People to involve current and past customers and staff in the planning of a replacement premises for Victoria Court, an interim accommodation scheme in Sheffield. Planning discussions took place between Eventus and Places for People, to discuss and agree the format and content for the event. One particular challenge that became apparent was, as the role of Victoria Court is to help move people into more permanent accommodation, it was unlikely that past or current customers would benefit from the new building, so the event had to be marketed to tempt them to attend. As a solution, Eventus devised a 3-stage marketing strategy as a means of best focussing the attention of the customers.

The event was conceived as a drop-in session, from 12.00pm – 4.00pm, where people could circulate around a number of activities, or sit and watch with food and drink until they felt comfortable enough to engage. It was agreed that the starting point for the consultation would be to encourage participants to share their views about the existing building. The activities, including photo-boards, plans of the new build, filming and digital photography were designed to bring out people’s feelings about present provision in Victoria Court in order to open up discussion about the new premises. The event was very successful with a good turnout of people engaging with the activities and providing their own design ideas, whilst staff were supportive of customers and able to give their own opinions.
