Full Circle was a community capacity building project using a creative approach to heritage and environment. It was funded by Objective 1 with additional funding from Arts Council England and Heritage Lottery Fund. The project, lasting two and a half years, was created by Eventus in response to an approach from Beighton Community Partnership, and was managed by Eventus in conjunction with Beighton Villages Development Trust. It was one of 8 projects within the Beighton Integrated Development Plan and sought to restore the community’s sense of identity and pride.
During the project, two full-time Cultural Development Workers were trained, managed and mentored by Eventus. The £300,000 Objective 1 funding and long timescale enabled us to develop an incremental process where each stage of a project fed into further developments. Training and support for local people was integral to the work, so that they could continue to develop projects. Through the hard work of both Eventus and the Beighton community, Full Circle met or exceeded all 17 of its targets, generating 5,758 attendances at project activities, 10 temporary jobs for local people, 220 events/workshops/training sessions and over 100 media articles.
As a result of the project, a definite sense of pride and identity was regained within the area alongside raised aspirations and quality of life, enhanced reputations, improved community cohesion and increased social, educational and employment opportunities.
