Fewer than Six

Commissioned by Yorkshire Arts (now Arts Council England, Yorkshire), Eventus created “Fewer than six… a study of creativity in regeneration in Yorkshire and the Humber”. By asserting that creativity is most effective when placed at the heart of regeneration, rather than being added to the end of the process, this publication stimulates an understanding of how creativity adds value to work. From the start of the regeneration process, through the creative consultation, strategy, co-ordinated delivery and evaluation or review of a project, it was shown that the creative process is essential for unlocking resources and talents and developing confidence within communities and organisations. Through in-depth research, this publication also examines the position of creativity within the regional and national context, provides project case studies and contains full references and reflections, whilst providing models and inspiration for taking regeneration work further.

Promoted by both Arts Council England (The Impact of the Arts:  some research evidence)  and the Scottish Executive (CPPR Impact Database), this document is a key text on culture in the mainstream regeneration themes of Housing, Health, Education, Community Safety, Environment, and Employment & Enterprise. The study highlights the diversity of creative activity delivering regeneration across the region, promoting key success factors, and making the information more widely available in order to advocate the power of creativity in regeneration to all agencies involved in neighbourhood renewal.
