Creative Futures is a Cultural Action Plan developed by Eventus in 2000 for an SRB area of North Sheffield. We think it is worth referencing on our website as Creative Futures sowed the seeds for Creative Places, a unique and nationally significant project embedding culture into housing market renewal.
Creative Futures located culture firmly within the 7 regeneration priority areas of NE Sheffield and generated a team of cultural development workers, a community led culture fund and a locally based cultural steering group.
Eventus also worked alongside Southey Owlerton Area Regeneration (SOAR), who developed 6 neighbourhood strategies using culture and environment as the keys to community engagement.
In 2005 this work led to Sheffield’s designation as one of 12 LGA/DCMS Cultural Pathfinders - showing how culture and sport helped to deliver mainstream priorities.
Partnership working across different sectors and the use of creativity as part of the regeneration toolbox led to this approach to regeneration being rolled out across the city’s 3 housing regeneration areas and the creation of the Creative Places programme.
Funding over the past 10 years has been limited and sometimes non existent, but key visionary people with the ability to get things done and strong partnerships have sustained this creative approach to regeneration and renewal.
